Top Ten reasons to Attend the NALS Conference at Ball State University

10. SEE   the Letterman Communications Building named after BSU grad, David Letterman. For fun check out Dave‟s "Top 10 reasons to have a building named after you" on YouTube.
9. ATTEND   great sessions, good people, plenty of fun and a chance to visit a nationally recognized lab school that has been in continuous operation since 1929.
8. FIGURE   out how a major university football team can go from 12 and1 to 2 and10 in one year.
7. DISCOVER   why the BSU art museum says, "What are you looking at?" Also find out about the BSU Art Museum and Burris Laboratory School $180,000 grant to research the success of integrating Visual Thinking Strategies into the 4th through 6th grade curriculum to improve student critical thinking skills.
6. RELEARN   your three R‟s … Relevance, Rigor, and Relationships. More than 40 sessions and panel presentations for teachers, administrators and school staff of all grade levels.
5. SAVE   money by attending. This is the least expensive NALS conference in years. Three- day registration is only $275 for NALS members, before March 1. Nicely appointed hotel rooms are available for only $58.50 per night. This price includes pool, SPA, sauna and hot breakfast. The conference registration includes three days of lunches and an evening reception. The reception will have a cash bar. Evening meals and activities are not included in the registration.
4. EXPERIENCE   an historic Midwestern town. Muncie, Indiana gets its fame from being the focus of the 1929 "Middletown" studies by a team of sociologists, led by Robert and Helen Lynd.
3. HANG OUT   with a "Fat Cat." Burris partner, Professor Garfield Cat will be in the house, and in a rare show of hospitality, he will share his lasagna and share what he knows about teaching reading and thinking skills.
2. USE   our extraordinarily clean, free bathrooms. As one of our young student‟s said, "Burris is a great Lavatory School."
1.   And last, but certainly not least, BUY T-shirts that honestly declare "Ball U" and "BSU?" Muncie, Indiana was the production site for Ball jars. The Ball brothers donated money to begin Indiana State Normal School Eastern Division, opening in 1918 to meet Indiana‟s need for more and better teachers. The school was renamed Ball Teachers College in 1922 and then Ball State Teachers College in 1929. In 1965, the Indiana General Assembly renamed the college Ball State University, acknowledging its phenomenal growth in enrollment and facilities, the variety and quality of its educational programs and services. Don‟t miss your chance to visit Ball State University and learn about the contribution of Laboratory Schools to quality teacher education programs.
