Director
PK Yonge Developmental Research School
The College of Education at the University of Florida seeks nominations and applications for the position of School Director and University School Professor at the PK Yonge Developmental Research School. This is a full-time administrative position that reports to the Dean of the College of Education.
PK Yonge, a unit in the College of Education of the University of Florida, was established in 1934 to be a center of educational innovation for students, K-12. The primary role of the school is to develop, evaluate, and disseminate exemplary programs of education. As described in the Sidney Martin Developmental Research School Act, the mission of a Developmental Research School is to serve as a vehicle for research, demonstration, and evaluation regarding teaching and learning while utilizing the resources available on a state university campus. PK Yonge has served such a role in the past and will continue to fulfill the mission of research, demonstration, and evaluation in the future.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director serves as the administrative head of PK Yonge Developmental Research School. The Director provides leadership for its K-12 academic programs, research initiatives, and service activities. In addition, the Director is responsible for administering and managing the budget and all fund raising activities.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute as follows:
- Represent the PK Yonge teaching, research, and service efforts within the College, University, state, and nation.
- Serve as the primary liaison with campus and external funding agencies, as well as establish strategic partnerships to pursue new opportunities.
- Provide leadership for PK Yonge’s teaching, research, and service initiatives.
- Establish and maintain extensive community and professional association contacts, support existing and identify new strategic partnerships, as well as links with relevant government agencies, to ensure that programs remain well-supported and relevant to the changing educational environment.
- Ensure that programs and initiatives at PK Yonge are framed appropriately to align with policy and funding changes.
- Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with all relevant faculties and groups within the University and community.
- Work with the development staff to maximize private foundation connections, in support of grants and gifts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
(1) An earned doctorate in education or related field is required; (2) administrative experience in K-12 schools within the past 10 years, with strong evidence of success as a visionary leader within the schools; (3) proven track record in scholarship (publications, conference presentations, and/or service to the professional community); (4) success in fund raising and in securing and managing external grants and contracts; (5) excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively are essential, as are strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills; and (6) demonstrated commitment to diversity.
Starting Date and Salary:
The starting date is January 5, 2011 or as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. This position is a 12-month appointment.

Established in 1934, PK Yonge Developmental Research School is a public school district affiliated with the University of Florida and located on its campus.
